Where is the best quietest place to start your lessons from?

Chelmer Village and Chancellors park area is where there are some quiet roads and a quiet car park. It’s a great place to get the basics done,  i.e. moving gears and changing gears.

What are the speed limits on the roads? 

There are some 20 mph but most roads are 30 mph generally. There are some speed cameras in the area also to enforce the speed limit which is always a good thing. There are some faster roads on the outskirts of the town. 

Are there many big or small roundabouts in my area? 

There are alot of roundabouts in the town, both big and small so it’s a great place to get lots of practice. The roundabouts and roads can get quite busy. 

Are there any dual carriageways?

There are quite a few dual carriageways around the town, notably the A12. 

What are the best times during the day to do your driving lessons? 

As the roads are quite busy it’s a great place to get lots of practice driving at any time of the day. When learning to drive it’s always good to do lessons at different times of the day and mix it up a little. 

Are there any busy/difficult/unusual junctions? 

Mostly busy roads and quite a few one way systems so you will be eagle eyed looking for the one way street signs and also the no entry roads.

Are there any places to practice bay parking?  

There are a lot of car parks dotted around the town so there is no shortage of places to practice and get good at bay parking.

The nearest theory test centre is in Chelmsford town, the full address is 1st Floor Grosvenor House. 51 New London Road. CM2 0ND  There is no direct telephone number for them so you would need to call the main national number which is 0300 200 1122

The nearest practical test centre is in the town. The address is Hanbury Road, CM1 3AE.

Which is the easiest test centre to do your practical driving test in my area?

There is only one test centre close to you and that is the one in Chelmsford town, it’s good to get to know the area before you do your test. There is a mix of roads from one way systems to dual carriageways. If you didn’t want to do your test at Chelmsford then the next nearest practical centre is the one in Bishop’s Stortford, Bishop’s Stortford test routes are generally quieter.
