Top 10 Tips for learning in Enfield
Where is the best quietest place to start your lessons from?
Chase Green Avenue turning right onto Bycullan Road then up towards Rowantree Road. Great place to get started on your first driving lessons. It will give you a chance to change gears and do some left and right turn maneuvers. It will give you a chance to get used to driving your car before heading out to busier Roads.
What are the speed limits on the roads?
There are mostly 30 mph with some dual carriageways like the A10 Great Cambridge road and the A406 North Circular Road.
Are there many big or small roundabouts in my area?
There are quite a few small roundabouts in the area but if you’re looking to practice big roundabouts I would suggest heading up towards the Great Cambridge roundabout where the A10 road meets the A406 North Circular. Make sure you are very confident on roundabouts before attempting the Great Cambridge Roundabout, it’s not for the faint hearted.
Are there any dual carriageways?
The A10 and the A406 are the closest dual carriageways
What are the best times during the day to do your driving lessons?
It gets busy around rush hour times but if you go in the opposite direction to the traffic you should still be able to get a lot of driving done. In the mornings it’s busy heading into Central London and in the evening it’s busy heading out from London. The best times to practice are from 10am in the mornings until 3pm, outside of these times on workdays the roads can become very busy. The smaller side roads are generally not that busy.
Are there any busy/difficult/unusual junctions?
Most of the main roads get busy. Joining the A10 and the North Circular from the side roads can be a bit hectic so you may have to be patient when waiting for a break in the traffic.
Are there any places to practice bay parking?
There are not many places to practice except in housing estates. You might be able to get a chance to practice at the Enfield test centre if there are no tests going on. Please don’t go there during test times. Ikea off the North Circular is a great place to practice. Also the big Tesco store beside it has a big car park to practice in.
Which are my nearest theory test centres?
The nearest theory test centres are Southgate, Ilford, then there is London Bridge (Southwark) theory test centre.
Where is my local practical test centre?
There are 6 DVSA practical test centres not too far away, Enfield, Tottenham, Wood Green, Chingford, Barnet and Borehamwood.
Which is the easiest test centre to do your practical driving test in my area?
All test centres are the same. If you’re not a fan of roundabouts then Wood Green and Tottenham have fewer roundabouts on the test routes but if you are going to do your test in either Wood Green or Tottenham make sure you practice the Great Cambridge roundabout from all directions, Chingford test centre has an uneven car park. You will be taken onto big roundabouts on most tests. Enfield has a good mix of roads on tests. Borehamwood test centre has lots of small roundabouts and Barnet has country roads to contend with.
