Top 10 Tips for learning in N11 Southgate

Where is the best quietest place to start your lessons from?

Just off Hampden Road you have Mandeville Road turning right onto Summit Way and then turning right back onto Mandeville Road, a great place to get the basics right before going onto the main roads like Hampden Road and Waterfall Road.

What are the speed limits on the roads?

There are mostly 30 mph and a few 20 mph roads. The A1 heading towards the A406 North Circular is 40 mph going up to 50 mph. The A10 Great Cambridge Road is 40mph and if heading up towards Enfield it becomes a 50mph road.

Are there many big or small roundabouts in my area?

There is a good mixture of small and medium Roundabouts in the area. Betstyle Circus is the closest medium size roundabout but if you’re looking to practice roundabouts I would suggest heading up towards the Great Cambridge roundabout where the A10 road meets the A406 North Circular. Also Brent Cross there is a busy Roundabout.

Are there any dual carriageways?

The A10 Great cambridge Road and the A406 North Circular are the closest dual carriageways 

What are the best times during the day to do your driving lessons?

It gets busy around rush hour times but if you go in the opposite direction to the traffic you should still be able to get a lot of driving done. In the mornings it’s busy heading into Central London and in the evening it’s busy heading out from London. The side roads are normally quite day and night. 

Are there any busy/difficult/unusual junctions?

Most of the main roads get busy. Joining the A406 North Circular from the side roads can be a bit hectic so you may have to be patient when waiting for a break in the traffic.Keep a check out for bus lanes operating times.

Are there any places to practice bay parking?

There are not many places to practice except in housing estates.There are lots of parks in the area with car parks when you can learn to perfect the bay parking. Brent Cross shopping centre has lots of places to do bay parking. Alexandra Palace has a few car parks to practice in when there are no events happening

Which are my nearest theory test centres?

The nearest theory test centres are Southgate, Watford Then there is London Bridge theory test centre.

Where is my local practical test centre?

There are 4 DVSA practical test centres not too far away, Barnet, Borehamwood, Tottenham and Wood Green.

Which is the easiest test centre to do your practical driving test in my area?

All test centres are the same. If you’re not a fan of roundabouts then Wood Green and Tottenham have fewer roundabouts on the test routes but if you are going to do your test in either Wood Green or Tottenham make sure you practice the Great Cambridge Roundabout from all directions. There are more country roads on the Barnet routes, Borehamwood has lots of mini roundabouts.
